Medium-sized garden, Little Chalfont, near Amersham

This garden designed by James Scott MSGD was set in a wooded area in Little Chalfont, near Amersham, Buckinghamshire. The plot had been stripped of nearly all trees and large shrubs. The large newly built house seemed overly imposing in the landscape and our client wanted to soften it. We planted 30 semi mature trees and shrubs to integrate and blend the house into the surroundings whilst still maintaining an open feel to the garden. Foundation planting with clipped box hedging is used to further soften the house and blend the transition to the garden. The journey around the garden leads along paths, through pergolas and past deep woodland borders with several havens to stop, contemplate and enjoy the garden.
