Barn property

Designed by Jilayne Rickards MSGD

The dream

The owners of King Ash Barn in Great Missenden came to designer Jilayne Rickards wanting the simple, lawned front approach to their barn completely reimagined.  Their dream was to see the space transformed into a relaxing retreat to be enjoyed equally by their family and by the wildlife they wanted to attract.

The transformation

Jilayne created a stunning design based around meandering curves to reflect the gentle undulations of the valley views beyond.

The Garden Company was entrusted with the build for this ambitious scheme and worked closely alongside Jilayne to create:  a circular wildlife pond, curved decking area, large patio for outside dining and a new oak pergola to provide height and seclusion in the previously flat, featureless space.

Gravelled and paved pathways snaking through the nectar-rich planting schemes encourage peaceful strolls through an area that was previously just a throughfare, while mosaic brickwork borders reflect the rustic hues of the barn to tie the house in with its landscape.

This garden is the definition of a life-enhancing outside transformation.  The owners of this wonderful barn now have a peaceful retreat they love and a wealth of birds, butterflies, bees and dragonflies have found a new home.
